A very Good Friday

Prawn and Mussel Linguine

A very Good Friday

I can't get over this fabulous weather, It's been so hot here over the Easter holidays that it's felt more like summer than spring.  Once again, we've taken full advantage of the weather and have been eating most of our meals in the garden and yes that means A LOT of barbequing; but as it's traditional to forgo meat in favour of fish on Good Friday I decided to do a very simple mussel and prawn linguine which was perfect for the whole family on a scorching lazy day...

Slowdown Sunday

Slowdown Sunday

Today has been one of those days where I don't feel like doing a thing; I'm thankful it's a Sunday and have decided to give in to my mood without guilt (untill tomorrow when I think of all the things I could have done on this sunny day).  The boys have been very busy with Rugby practice and gardening while I have wondered aimlessly around the garden.  I have taken a few snaps on my phone to show what a lovely day it is and am writing this quickly while I feel inclined before I succumb to my mood with a cup of tea and my new book...

Sisters

Lulu loves her big sister

Sisters

When I was young I often thought it would be great to have a sister.  I have a younger brother and we were polar opposites growing up, my mum said that I stopped wanted to play with him the minute he refused to do what I told him (I think this is a bit harsh but was probably somewhat true)!  As adults we have grown much closer and I now really enjoy spending time with him (we have a more balanced relationship now *ahem*).  But I am glad Lulu has a big sister as well as a big brother, I think she'll have the best of both worlds.  Already I can see their relationship developing and it is sometimes breathtaking to watch...

A Mini Breakfast

Poached Quail Eggs

A Mini Breakfast

We love good breakfasts and thanks to our garden hens we regularly have dippy eggs and soldiers or scrambled eggs for breakfast. I love that the children can nip down the garden, collect a few eggs and within 10 minutes they have a nutritious and tasty breakfast, I'm lucky that all three of the children love eggs as they are a great start to their day.  At the weekends we have the time to be a little more adventurous with breakfast so I was very pleased when I was given some quail eggs by my sister-in-law (whose family has inherited 50 quails to look after!)...

The Dummy Diaries

Lulu Loves and Loses

The Dummy Diaries

Lulu has a dummy, well she has lots of dummies hidden in various locations around the house.  Lulu loves her dummy but now it is time for it to leave her.  This has been on my mind for a few months now, how do we remove the dummy?  The other two didn't have dummies so I am a complete novice at this particular conundrum, I've heard all sorts of dummy stories in the past few months but I was finding it hard to put anything into action.  And then it happened...

A Busy Week

A Busy Week
It's been a hectic week here, I was very fortunate to be part of a dear friends Hen weekend in Budapest.  This meant two whole days without the family being FREE, the reality of this was one very bad hangover and lots of rushing around to see and do everything in the two days we were there.  But it was lovely to experience a new City, especially one as beautiful as Budapest, and we had a great laugh - plus a lovely afternoon at the historic thermal spa.  I returned late Monday night to find everyone still in one piece and got up ready (if still a little sleep deprived) to face the week, however, Lulu came down with tonsillitis and was poorly for the next 3 days.  By Friday (Red Nose Day) we were all absolutely shattered.  So I have been a bad blogger and just uploaded a few snaps of the past week...

A Year In Polaroid 2010 - Part I

A mobile photo album

A Year In Polaroid 2010 - Part I

As I was loading the photos for the World Book Day post from my phone to my PC I noticed I still had all of last year's photos to export! I was shocked to discover that I had taken 1728 pictures last year on my mobile, that's an average of 144 photos a month just hidden away on my phone! I realised that these pictures probably give a more accurate representation of day to day life than the ones I take on my digital camera so I've decided to do a 'Year in Pictures' post, a little late I know but I was very new to blogging in January and was still getting my head around this system.

World Book Day {2011}

'I write this sitting in the kitchen sink'...

World Book Day {2011}

...Well not really but as today is world book day and being an ardent book lover I thought it would be a great opportunity to share a couple of our favourite books. Our home is filled with books and I couldn't be without them, the children have also, to my delight, grown to be enthusiastic book lovers.  We have bookcases in most rooms (small piles of books can usually be found in those without) and I've got to the stage now that a book only makes the bookshelf if it is truly special; those that don't make the shelf I swap with friends.

I thought for a while about which book I could call my favourite and decided I couldn't possibly narrow it down to 1 or even ten; I cherish novels alongside cookery books, history books, plays, poems, travel books...the list goes on.  So I thought for this post the children and I would pick one book each from our favourites to share...
