Crochet Catch-up

Podcast Episode 5 {20.11.17]

Hello! Episode 5 of the Lululoves vlog/podcast is now live on my YouTube channel. I’m still really enjoying filming fortnightly vlogs of what I’ve been making but I thought I’d share the projects here too…

Lululoves: Crochet Cushion

The first thing I finished was this beautiful cushion cover. I came across the pattern on Instagram and knew I’d have to make it. The pattern was in the September/October issue of Ideas Magazine and is by Elspeth Eksteen. It’s not a magazine we get here but I managed to download a digital copy here. I had so much fun crocheting all the flowers and stitching the embroidery.

I also managed to finish a v-stitch cowl and wrist warmers using a pattern I had created a few years back for my Inside Crochet Column (issue 56). I was trying out some new yarns: Rico Essentials Alpaca Blend in shades Mocha 014, Dusky Pink 009 and Rico Creative Melange Chunky 007. They've turned out beautifully soft. I will be posting the free pattern up here on the blog for these hopefully later in the week.

I have started another project from this months Inside Crochet magazine (issue 95) and it’s the gorgeously boho Siena Kimono by Kath Webber. The kimono is made up of 31 motifs that you join at the end so it’s a lovely portable project. I’m just making a couple up at a time when I have some spare moments. I think I should have this finished in the next week or so.

I have also started another blanket… now lets not get too excited as this is going to be a slow and steady project! I am making one 9 inch square a week. I am calling them my Saturday squares the idea being I make one each Saturday morning. It’s a way for me to try new patterns and stitch combinations without committing to a large project. I am hoping that, if I can keep it up, by the end of next year I will be able to put together a sort of sampler square afghan in lovely neutrals for my bed. So far I’ve made an Origami Flower Square by ChiChi Allen, this one is available as a free Ravelry download here. The other square I completed is from a book called Hakeln Im Quadrat by Stephanie Thies, I think I bought this one on EBay a long time ago. It’s not an English book but all the motifs have diagrams. I'm having to adapt some of the squares I've picked as most of them seem to be for 12 inch squares but so far it's only been a case of skipping the last couple of rounds, so not too much of a problem.

That’s it for crochet, for now. I’m currently busy writing up and editing the patterns for my Light Between Oceans inspired Courtship Shawl (which should be released by the end of this week) and the Diamonds and Bobbles jumper…Gahhhh!

Anyway, I hope you are all well and I shall be back later this week.

Bye for now, Em xx
