Lululoves Crochet Podcast | Episode 21

Hello. I am so happy that we are inching closer to Spring. This past month has been a busy one so I’ve been working on lots of smaller crochet projects. If you’d like see more of the items I’m working on I’ve just filmed episode 21 of the Lululoves podcast over on YouTube or read on for the shownotes…

Finished Items:

Boho Bunting: I’ve made another string of bunting following my own pattern. This bunting was featured last year in issue 93 of Mollie Makes and is now available to purchase individually on Etsy, Ravelry or Love Crochet. There’s a blog post with more photos here.

Crochet Roses: I’m on a stashbusting mission this year. I’ve been making these cute roses with some yarn scraps. I made a giant one to wear as a brooch to Unravel Festival. I always make my roses the same way. I use my crochet collar pattern (skipping row 1) and then simply wind the finished collars up, stitching as I go. Simples!

Easter Eggs: I’ve been working on a little Easter Egg project for the blog, I spent a happy afternoon trying to get the perfect egg shape (in my opinion LOL). I’ve also been doing my usual trick of making up the same pattern in lots of different size yarns and multiple yarns held together.  I love how this can completely change the look of a project. Hopefully more to come on this project here next week.

Granny Blanket: I’m taking part in Rosina’s (Zeens & Rogers) Granny Cal again this year. All the details for the 2019 CAL can be found over on Rosina’s blog Last year I finished a top for my eldest, this year I am definitely craving the comfort of a granny blanket. I am using King Cole Magnum Chunky in the shades; Shell, Bracken, Sandstone and Champagne. I’m also experimenting with the join as you go method. Instead of joining as I would normally in rows I am taking inspiration from Sandra’s (Cherry Heart) ‘Battenberg Blanket’. Sandra has a joining video here on her channel. This method is giving me the patchwork effect I am after and is making sure that all my joining stitches are the same colour.

Crochet Cushion: Again inspired by my need to clear my stash I have started another cushion (to be fair, it’s been a while). I had 2 skeins of this beautiful Cascade Ulta Pima Print cotton in Pastilles. I’m not even sure you can still buy that colourway. Anyway, I’m experimenting with mini squares for this one, although it is clearly ALL about the yarn!

Knitting: I’ve decided to bypass all the simple projects I should be making and have a go at a lace pattern… I am however, working on 5mm needles with DK weight yarn so that I can learn the methods as I go. Wish me luck!

Books:

I was very lucky to receive two copies of Tracey Todhunters new book: 200 More Crochet Stitches. I have a weakness for stitch directories but this one has definitely got some new ones for me. If you would like to win a copy I currently have a giveaway running on my Instagram so head over there if you would like to enter (Giveaway ends Friday 15thMarch 2019 and is open worldwide).

Pom Pom Magazine: I caved and bought another episode of PomPom after cancelling my subscription a while ago. This issue (Spring 2019) they have TWO gorgeous crochet patterns.

Unravel Haul

I had such a fabulous time at Unravel this year. It was my first EVER time at a yarn festival. I was so nervous but I had organised to meet some lovely fellow crochet bloggers; Chrissie from Chrissies Crafts, Sarah from AnnaBoo’s House, Sharna from Sweet Sharna and Hattie from The Petal Shed. These girls are absolutely lovely and I had such a fabulous day chatting about yarn and crochet.

Anyway these are the items I came away with:

Two skeins of Sparkly Lace Moonshine and a wooden shawl pin from Belinda Harris-Reid

One skein of Smooth Merino in ‘La Vie En Rose’ and one skein of Sparkle Sock in ‘Mr Bingley’ from West Green Loft Yarns

A Fairisle Wrist Warmers knitting kit and two stone shawl pins from The Knitting Gift Shop.

Some itchy balls and some linen thread.

We also very sweetly got given some little goody bags from the lovely Tara at Irish Artisan Yarns. Her yarns are simply gorgeous.

So that’s about it for this episode, I’m re-watching comfort TV and re-reading Wuthering Heights so I know my soul is craving comfort and familiarity at the moment and I fully intend to give in to it.
