Crochet Podcast Episode 29

{27.03.20}

Hello. Just popping in with the show notes for episode 29 of the Lululoves crochet podcast. These are strange times and I’ve found that taking time to do the things I enjoy helps keep the worry at bay for a while…

Finished Objects:

Anne with an ‘E’ by Mei Li Lee of AmiguruMei

I’ve absolutely loved making this. It has been on my wish list for a while and has been the perfect distraction. The pattern calls for DK weight cotton yarn but I had a lot of Scheepjes Stonewashed so I’ve used that. I added some flowers to her hat and some freckles using gold thread. I was sad to hear that Netflix has cancelled ‘Anne with an E’ but this project has definitely helped cheer me. You can purchase the pattern here on Etsy too (where it is currently 30% off.)

WIPS:

My design head has been absent this past month. I’ve decided to not beat myself up about it but use this time to make things that make me happy. I’ve been looking through all the patterns I’ve saved/bookmarked/purchased over the years. I can safely say I have plenty to keep me busy during the lockdown.

I’ve been working up the beautiful mini skeins I bought earlier this year from Hedgerow Yarns. I’ve been using my usual reversible square pattern and a 3mm hook. I’ve got 20 squares out of the minis I bought so will get started on some plain squares until I can get hold of more mini skeins. As always I’m enjoying working on granny squares in the evenings I think because it’s perfect telly crochet for me!

I’ve also nearly finished my crochet basket using the Paintbox Recycled T-Shirt yarn that was kindly sent to me by the people at Love Crafts. I Love the way this yarn works up, it has a nice stretch to it and gives a great stitch definition. I’m looking forward to finishing it and filling the basket with beautiful yarn.

Ana from @oneskeinoflove asked if I would like to join in the book tour for her new book ‘Cosy Crochet Blankets’. It’s such a gorgeous book, I’ve already picked out a project to try and have started making my squares. I’ll share more when the tour gets started next month.

New items:

I tried out my first Prym crochet hook when I was searching for a 15mm for my basket project. I’m not normally a fan of plastic hooks but I was really impressed with this one. I had an Amazon voucher so I purchased this colourful set of hooks. I like that they don’t have that blunt feeling that other plastic hooks can have and I love the colourful design. (You can shop my other Amazon crochet favourites here!)

I treated myself to some hand-dyed yarn from Biff Sugar Yarns on Etsy. I bought three skeins of DK weight yarn in the most delicious shades. I can’t wait to see them in a project.

The new Scheepjes bookazine is out and I’m drooling over all the patterns especially the Inner Goddess Cushions by Esme Crick (@RedSparrowCrochet). Beautiful.

Books:

I’ve nearly finished reading Miss Austen and All The Girls so I’ve lined up my next reads, ‘Where The Crawdads Sing’ by Delia Owens and the non-fiction book ‘The Five: the untold lives of the women killed by Jack the Ripper’ by Hallie Rubenhold. I'm also chatting away about some charity shop books I've found. One for my crochet book collection and the other a novel I had never heard of from L.M. Montgomery!

You can watch episode 29 over on YouTube here.

So I think that's it for now, all being well I'll be back soon with another episode.

Stay safe, bye for now

Em xx
