Crochet Podcast Episode 13

{08.05.18}

Hello! I’m back this week refreshed from the most glorious bank holiday here in the UK. Three whole days of sun have lifted my spirits no end, I hope you’ve been enjoying some sunshine where you are! I’ve just uploaded episode 13 of my crochet podcast to YouTube so I thought I’d pop on here to fill you in on what I’ve been working on recently…

Finished Items:

It’s been a funny couple of weeks, as I haven’t really wanted to work on any of my WIPS. Instead I’ve been playing around with stitches and techniques but I have managed to finish a couple of things:

Crochet Granny Square Cushion

I found this half finished granny square hidden amongst my stash of yarn a few weeks back. I loved the colours so decided to keep going with it and make a small cushion for myself. I didn’t use a pattern but you just work a large granny square and place your cushion stuffer diagonally inside it, then stitch it up along the back. I experimented with ruffles and tassels with this one and it was such a fun little project.  I used scraps of Aran weight yarn and a 5mm hook.

Crochet Collars

I’ve been busy updating parts of this blog and It’s been lovely to revisit old projects. I made a bunch of crochet collars using my Peter Pan Crochet Collar Pattern in lots of bright DK cotton (Paintbox).

Pearl Socks by Vita Apala

I found the pattern for these beautiful crochet socks in the latest issue of Inside Crochet Magazine (issue 101). They are absolutely stunning. I worked them up with a ball of Jarol Wool Rich 4ply (55% wool, 25% acrylic, 20% nylon) in the shade parchment, which I also used to make the GoldenRod Jumper I finished recently. I worked these using a 3mm hook and went up a sock size. My heel is coming up a little tight but other than that they fit and I just love the slouchy cuff.

Raised Flower Motif

Not much to say about this one really, the result of an evenings experimentation with raised stitches. I think this would make a beautiful blanket but it will have to wait whilst I finish some current projects!

WIPS:

The only new WIP I have this week is a granny stitch market bag. Since making the Wool and The Gang Gangsta bag I have been obsessing over crochet market bags. I’ve really enjoyed coming up with this simple design. I still have to work the handles and I’ve got some ideas for embellishments I’d like to try, so watch this space.

{Edit} The pattern for my crochet market bag / tote is now available for free here.

New Items:

Only a set of very scary knitting needles this week, I’m looking for a set of 4.5mm circular needles to attempt this pattern. The search continues!

Also talking about the Calligraphy workshop I enjoyed recently run by Athena of Meticulous Ink at The Makery in Bath.

Books:

I flew through Fiona Barton’s ‘The Child’ a mystery based around the discovery of a historic set of newborn bones. Told from the perspective of three female protagonists - I loved the plot twists.

I’ve also just started reading Anne Bronte’s ‘The Tenant of WildFell Hall’ as part of my on-going goal to read classics I’ve missed over the years. I’m really enjoying it so far.

TV:

I’ve been enjoying the BBC’s adaption of The Woman In White. Not quite how I imagined it but good nonetheless.

Also I’m completely obsessed with ‘The Alienist’ on Netflix. We’ve been flying through these episodes. Set in the late 19th Century New York, it follows the story of a physiatrist who is trying to get inside the mind of a serial killer. LOVE IT.

Anyway I think that’s all for now. Hopefully, I’ll be back soon with a new pattern.

Bye for now. Em xx
