I've not done a food post for a while now - not because I've stopped cooking & baking but because I often remember to take pictures of the making part then am so hungry/anxious to taste the finished item once its cooked that I completely forget to take any more pictures. But this Sunday I had the camera out a lot so I managed to get some photos of my first attempt at a Plum Cobbler...
...We are lucky to have several plum trees in the garden and although the children have been making their way through them, I noticed they were going over quite quickly. I asked the children and Rob to pick some good ones and said I would attempt to make a cobbler, I would usually make an oaty crumble with fruit from the garden but I felt like trying something different.
I found this Delia Smith recipe for Plum and Almond Buttermilk Cobbler which was very simple, I was worried that the buttermilk might make it a bit savoury but with the sugar & cinnamon sprinkled on top (and over the fruit) it was just right. The only thing I may try differently next time is peeling the skin from the plums as they were a little tart, although Rob likes that I prefer my puds a little sweeter! I also could not forgo the custard for Delia's suggested ice cream!
We ate it for tea in the newly painted summer house and enjoyed the last hours of the weekend in the garden before the madness that is Monday once again descended on us...
Looks like the floor approves of plum cobbler too!
We have lots of apples & blackberries also getting ripe in the garden so If anyone has any pudding suggestions I'd love to try some new recipes.
