We Are Knitters Crochet Kit Review

The Tristaina Sweater

We Are Knitters Crochet Sweater Kit Review | Lululoves Crochet Blog

Hello! Gosh, it’s been a while – I’ve missed updating the blog regularly but if you follow me on YouTube you will have heard that I have been busy behind the scenes writing my very own CROCHET BOOK – Gahhhhh! More on that in another post but today I just wanted to share my thoughts on the We Are Knitters crochet kit I was kindly sent earlier this year…

I’ve followed We Are Knitters over on Instagram for many years now and always swooned over their beautiful knits. So I was very excited when they got in touch and offered me the chance to pick a kit to try out.

Their website is very easy to navigate and you can search kits by technique (crochet, knit, arm knitting, petit point or hand dye), fibre, level (beginner (very easy), easy, intermediate and advanced) or you can search by garment type.

I went for a crochet kit, as there were so many beautiful ones to choose from and my knitting skills have not really advanced from anything more than the most basic of scarves. I really wanted to try out one of their garments so I picked the Tristaina Sweater kit which comes in the Petit Wool and has been classified as an Intermediate pattern by WAK – If you are unsure of what level project to look for WAK have a useful guide here.

My kit included all the wool required to complete the sweater in my size (I checked the measurements given and went for a Medium), a 7mm wooden crochet hook, pattern booklet, some fun stickers, a tapestry needle and the sweetest label to sew in to the finished sweater all wrapped up in their gorgeous brown bag packaging.

** on a side note I can’t tell you how hard it is to keep referring to it as a sweater, It’s woolly nature means it most definitely counts as a jumper over here in Britain (as opposed to sweater which for some reason I only associate with sportswear?) In trying to pin down the true name of the piece of clothing you layer over clothes for the purpose of keeping warm I came across this article trying to define the differences between sweater and jumper – it’s pretty funny! **

Anyway, back to the kit, all the kits are easily customisable. You can choose your size, yarn colour, pattern language and whether or not you want a hook included (at extra cost) - also worth noting that extra charges are often applicable for sizes L and XL due to the extra yarn included.

The pattern itself was very easy to follow and included stitch descriptions (with links to online tutorials) and diagrams on how to join the garment. I will say that although the Tristaina Sweater is labelled intermediate I found it a very simple pattern. I really enjoyed working it up and because it’s a chunky yarn it worked up so fast. The yarn is also incredibly soft, not so much as a hint of itchiness, and made up of 100% Peruvian wool – it really is a luxury. I also found that the wooden crochet hook worked really well with the yarn. I usually prefer a metal hook so this came as a really pleasant surprise!

I really love the ethos of WAK, their wool and cotton yarns are all 100% natural whilst their fabric yarns are recycled from leftover fabrics. The knitting needles and crochet hooks supplied are 100% beechwood and all their packaging is recyclable.

We Are Knitter Kits start at £35 to £100+ (the Tristaina kit comes in at £90 including hook for sizes S and M) and I would consider these to be more on the luxury side at those prices but the quality is definitely there and as you know we are fast approaching a certain special holiday these would make the most beautiful gifts.

Anyway, I think that’s about it. I loved the kit, the yarn was gorgeous and smooshy, the quality of everything is what you’d expect from a higher-end kit and I would definitely buy from them in the future. If you'd like to see the contents of the kit and the finished jumper I was chatting about it in episode 25 of my YouTube Podcast here.

If you have any questions feel free to comment below, drop me an email or send me a message via Instagram which is where I like to hang out! :)

Bye for now,

Em xx
