Free Crochet Pattern – Market Tote Bag

Free Crochet Pattern - Market Tote Bag | Lululoves Crochet

{18.05.18}

Hello, I’m just popping in today with a free pattern for this simple crochet market bag tote I’ve been working on. I’ve called it a market tote as it’s a sort of an in-between design. It’s slouchy like a market bag with the structure of a tote bag. I’m addicted to making these, they work up quickly and look so stylish once they’re finished. They are so easy to create and you can embellish them any way you please to make them truly unique – plus so much cheaper than buying them in the stores!

I’ve written the free pattern below for you but if you’d prefer a printout you can purchase an inexpensive Ad-free 4-page downloadable pattern here from my Ravelry store or here from my Etsy Store

Crochet Granny Market Tote

Pattern is written in UK Terms (US abbreviations listed below)

Yarn: any DK cotton – I used Paintbox DK Cotton (50g/125m/137yd) 100% cotton in shade 403; Light Champagne. (5 balls)

For alternate yarns, you will need approx. 250g of dk cotton.

Tapestry Needle, Scissors, Stitch markers x4

Pattern is worked in turned AND unturned rounds so check the end of each round carefully for instructions. Beginning ch-3s always count as 1tr, beginning ch-1s do not count as a stitch. Ch – Chain

Dc – Double Crochet * US Single Crochet

Tr – Treble Crochet * US Double Crochet

St – Stitch

Sl St – Slip Stitch

Sm – Stitch Marker

Repeat for the second handle. Fasten off and sew in ends.

Decorate

Decorate by weaving lace/ribbon or a chain thread in and out of the last round of granny clusters  – make sure you cut or chain enough to fit around the bag comfortably without pulling it tight.

To make a chain thread, chain150, weave through bag and attach beads and tassels to finish.
