Crochet Podcast Episode 22
Wahoo Spring is finally here! I am so happy about this, and as if on cue we have had several days of beautiful sunshine here in the UK. I’ve been enjoying those evening dog walks once again and the fact I no longer have to wear a coat. Anyway I’ve just filmed episode 22 of the podcast so read on if you’d like to see what I’ve been making this month…

{27.03.19}
Finished Objects:
Floral Easter Eggs
I talked a lot about these in the last episode of the podcast but I finished them off with some cute flowers and embellished them further with beads. The free pattern and all the details are up on the blog here.

Virus Shawl
I found this forgotten WIP in my office. I think I fell out of love with it at a certain colour change, however, I picked it back up and thought it would be the perfect gift (it’s on its way to its new home as we speak) Actually as I continued to work on it and the other colours came through I actually warmed to it A LOT. The yarn I used is a Sheepjes Frosted Whirl in the shade: Sunny Sundae Sauce (323). It’s a 4ply yarn and I worked the shawl in a 3.5mm hook (which luckily for me was still in the bag with it!). The finished shawl is absolutely stunning. I posted a picture on Instagram and was told that there is a virus shawl CAL happening right now. Organised every year by @silverypaws @craftycatknittybits & @kellygreenlizzy it’s a very casual cal but if you are currently making one be sure to check out/use the #anniversaryvirusshawlcal to see lots of beautiful shawls.

Scallops of the Sea Mandala
I really wanted to use my leftover egg yarn for something and a mandala seemed like the perfect project. This one is the Scallops of the Sea Mandala by Haafner Linssen, the pattern can be found in her book Mandalas to Crochet: 30 Great Patterns. I’ve used Paintbox aran cotton and a 5mm hook for mine so it’s come up quite big but I love it… I’m definitely going to be making more

WIPS
I’m still working on my crochet granny square blanket. I’m getting used to the modular joins and it is slowly growing. I think I’m probably about halfway there now. I love having this type of project on the go, perfect for those evenings when there is something good on TV! All the details of the yarns I’m using can be found in episode 21s show notes here.

Crochet Socks
I’m counting this as a WIP but it’s not really as I haven’t actually started. I FINALLY found my Vicky Brown crochet sock book (it’s been m.i.a for over a year now). I bought this about 2 years ago around Easter time as a set with some beautiful hand-dyed sock yarn by Vicky. The yarn is called Mini Eggs and is perfect for this time of year. I’ve decided to make a set of socks from the book with it. You can buy The Crochet Sock Collection (and Vicky’s gorgeous hand-dyed yarn) here on her website (there’s 10% off first orders too!) it includes 5 sock designs. I’ve also just had a look at the Mini Eggs yarn is back!!
Embroidery kit by DMC
I’m also going to have a go at some simple embroidery. I bought this cute magic paper embroidery kit from my local yarn store. You basically stick the design on, sew onto the template then dissolve the paper. I mean that sounds pretty simple, I’m sure even I could manage that…watch this space 😉
Books and TV
Currently reading Tangerine by Christine Mangan described as Girl on the Train meets the Talented Mr Ripley and I’ve just finished watching the psychological three-part thriller ‘Cheat’ on ITV.
Anyway, I think that’s it for now. The school holidays are starting soon so I hoping for sunshine, chocolate and lots of family time. You can watch episode 22 of the podcast here
