Crochet Podcast Episode 30
Hello, I hope you are all keeping safe and well? We’re finding that taking one day at a time is the best way for us to cope with this strange new normal. I even managed to film another episode of my podcast so I’m taking that as a win for the week…

Finished Objects
Tidy Up Storage Basket
I finally finished this gorgeous bobble stitch basket. The pattern is a free one you can download via Love Crafts. They very kindly sent me some of their Paintbox Recycled T-Shirt Yarn to try and I’ve really enjoyed working with it. It’s so soft and has a slight stretch to it which makes it nice and easy to work with. Like all Paintbox yarns, It’s also good value for money. I’ll definitely be looking forward to trying out some more projects with it.
Solstice Bunting
I released a new pattern at the end of April. It’s another bunting pattern (surprise, surprise). I was inspired by the change of seasons and the promise of sunny days for this one! I won’t go into it too much here but you can read all about it here. The pattern will be available free for a month (until 25th May) so be sure to pop over and download it if you’d like to make some. I’m already on my second batch (orders from both daughters for this one!). If you do make some and you’re on Instagram please use the tag #solsticebunting so I can see.
Pop Around the Plate Coasters
I found this beautiful coaster pattern via Sisters in A Stitch (@SistersInStitch over on Instagram) and knew I had to make some. I’ve made mine in the most beautiful Stylecraft yarn called MoonBeam in shade Moonlight Frappe (shade 3958) which is a DK weight cotton/viscose self-patterning yarn that has a lovely shiny thread running through it. The pattern is a free download here on Ravelry. There’s a popcorn stitch and a cluster stitch version for you to choose from.
WIPS
I finished the front panel of my cushion cover which was my chosen project for the book tour of Cosy Crochet Blankets by Ana Morais Soares (@oneskeinoflove over on Instagram) I used some of the lovely hand-dyed yarn I bought from Hedgerow Yarns and some pink and grey that I had in my stash. I love the way it’s turned out. I just need to make a back for the cushion and then I can enjoy it.
New Items
I got sent a lovely Easter treat from one of my lovely Instagram friends who has started dying her own yarn @mrandmrsrabbit over on Instagram. Claire kindly sent me some Easter inspired mini skeins for my mini skein blanket. I absolutely love the pastel colours and can’t wait to wind them and start crocheting them up into mini squares. You can find more of her yarns over on her website.
Books
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens – A beautifully written murder mystery/coming of age story set in the Marshlands of North Carolina.
Portraying Pregnancy: From Holbein to Social Media by Karen Hearn – I was looking forward to visiting this exhibition- which was the first ever to focus on portraits of pregnant women in British art – at Londons Foundling Museum but sadly the universe had other plans. I’ve enjoyed reading about the artwork featured in this book though which includes art from the 15thcentury to present day. I bought my copy via The Foundling Museum website here.
Ashcombe: The Story of a Fifteen-year Lease by Cecil Beaton – I’m really enjoying this eBay find, detailing Cecil’s time at Ashcombe House on the Wiltshire/Dorset border between 1930 – 1945.
TV
Chatting about a couple of good BBC programmes; The Nest and Normal People this week!
Anyway, I think that’s all from me. You can watch episode 30 of the podcast here on YouTube – don’t forget to subscribe if you enjoy them. I’ll be back soon with another episode.
Bye for now, Em xx
